If you have already left Japan
When you move out, your entry is removed from the resident register, and the municipal office for your last address issues a removed resident record (juminhyo no jokyo). It confirms your final registered address and your move-out date, which authorities abroad commonly accept as proof of past residence in Japan. Under a 2019 legal revision, removed records are retained for 150 years rather than the previous five, meaning older records can usually still be obtained. How much does a juminhyo translation cost?
Translation costs $24.95 per page of the original certificate, which includes the signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy and delivery within 48 hours. Most juminhyo are a single page, making the total usually $24.95, or $49.90 for a two-page document. Immigration filings often require a family register (koseki) as well, which you can include in the same order. Common questions
Can you get a juminhyo in English?
No. Japanese municipal offices issue the juminhyo only in Japanese. Authorities abroad accept an English translation of the Japanese original accompanied by a signed certificate of accuracy, which is what we provide.
Is a juminhyo the same as a koseki?
No. A koseki records family status events such as births, marriages, and deaths tied to a registered domicile, while a juminhyo records your current residence, or past residence on a removed record. Immigration procedures often require both, and we translate both at the same per-page rate.
I left Japan years ago. Can I still get a juminhyo?
In most cases, yes. The municipal office of your last address can issue a removed resident record (juminhyo no jokyo) showing your final address and move-out date.
